Dec. 19th, 2016 10:48 pmWhen he had first been asked to look after Hanbei Takenaka, Merrith had some reservations. He is a busy person, for one. For another, they know almost nothing about Takenaka, and his healthy sense of survival tells him that it's a bad idea to have a virtual stranger stay in his home for god knows how long.
But there's something to be said about maintaining good connections to the police, and letting someone stay in his spacious home is a small enough favour to ask of him. Besides, if he isn't mistaken, this is Hanbei Takenaka, vice president of one of the foremost technological companies in this country. He is a man worth knowing.
And, really, Merrith's decision is made for him the moment he sets eyes on Takenaka. He's not ashamed to admit that he's shallow, drawn to the beautiful and the unusual, and this man is attractive indeed. He favours Hanbei with a kind smile, extending a hand.
"I'm Merrith Faulknor," he introduces himself. They're in a terribly bland room, all white walls and stark, polished furniture, background noise to be tuned out. Hospital rooms are always like this. He has eyes only for Hanbei. "You've been informed of your situation, yes? The doctors have said that you are fit to be discharged. The police have arranged for you to stay with me while they continue their investigation into the group that had held you captive."
A flicker of sympathy enters his expression, but he's careful not to show any signs of pity. "I'm sorry for what you've been through. With any luck, it won't be long before the police conclude their investigation."
